Sugar's Story

Sugar was found in an abandoned house in east Tennessee by Donna and Lorene. She has been around the block a few times, and has the scars from protecting her litters to show for it. A bit rough around the edges, one might say, but she had a home at some time where she learned to love people and little things like going for car rides. If you are looking for a sweet girl without the mess and frustration of raising a puppy, then look no further - and if you would like to donate to her 6 puppies' medical bills Sugar will be delighted (she also would like a tummy-tuck to get her figure back)

Merry's Story

Merry and her 3 puppies were left in a box on the doorstep of a vets office on Chrismas Eve.  They think her leg was the result of being hit by a car and not being treated for the break, so her leg healed that way.  Although it wasn't causing her any pain and seemed to be a "dead" leg, it was effecting her balance and she started walking sideways to overcompensate for the leg.  The vet recommended removing it as soon as possible so that her center of balance wouldn't get any worse and she'd have a better chance at a quick recovery.  One of her puppies, Comet, has been adopted and her other two puppies, Dancer and Dasher, are still awaiting their perfect forever homes!

ACHILLES' Story

ACHILLES

I have nerve damage due to an old injury.  I was rescued out of a shelter in Georgia and brought to Homeward Bound.  I am getting physical therapy and I need a brace to help straighten out my leg so I can walk on the bottom of my foot again. Every dollar counts!

The brace costs $350
Will you please help?

Buck's Story

Hi! My name is Buck. I am a chocolate pit bull. I came to Homeward Bound from Alabama after my Dad was killed in a biggg car crash. I was hurt, too. It broke my leg. Me and Dad didn’t do anything wrong, we were just riding around on a Sunday afternoon . I was sooo sad that my Dad died. I was taken to the hospital where they fixed my leg. After a long recovery in Alabama they found a foster home for me in NY with Homeward Bound. When I got to NY I was taken to a specialist to be checked out. I was limping on my back leg. After exam and x-rays it confirmed I needed surgery on my hip. The car accident caused my bones not to grow properly. I need your help. Anything you can donate to offset the cost of my surgery would be appreciated.

Corbin's Story

Corbin has some laxity in his anterior cruciate (left) ligament. This means it is not completely ruptured, but it is either partially ruptured or is potentially about to completely rupture. Also, on that same leg there is a potential fracture of the tibial crest. The orthopedic specialists will tell you this is an injury that requires pinning - I have a client whose dog had a confirmed tibial crest fracture that they did not repair and the dog, one plus years later, seems no worse for the wear. However, down the road, there is very high likelyhood that this dog will have arthritis secondary to this injury. As far as Corbin goes, there is a high likelihood he will completely rupture his ligament. We are waiting on another opinion on his possible tibial crest fracture but it may be just the way his growth plates are - however, when compared to the opposite leg it is vastly different. Bottom line, Corbin is a dog who will likely have chronic orthopedic issues.”

Having given you the bad news first he is a young, spunky dog who loves to play and really enjoys being around other dogs. At this point in time he doesn’t show much pain from either leg but will occasionally limp or cry out. Thanks so much!
